Livingston rugby club fight back to secure late victory over East Kilbride

Jamie King was the hero as livi battled back from a 12-3 half time deficit to win the national league division three contest 15-12.

Livingston ended their losing streak with a last gasp victory over East Kilbride.

The almond park side fought back from 12-3 down at half time and scored late on to seal a 15-12 win for their third win of the season and end their losing run at four games.

The visitors started brightly and they took the lead when Gareth Jones squeezed over in the corner for the opening try of the game.

It didn't take long for East Kilbride to extend their lead as they notched try number two after just 16 minutes.

Craig Ferguson made a darting run through the livi defence and stand off Dylan Hamilton was the beneficiary as the pressure finally told when he dived over under the posts.

The simple conversion made it 12-0 and at that point it looked like it was going to be a long afternoon for the hosts.

However, following the poor start Livingston improved their play at both ends of the park and they finally got on the score board just before the interval.

Callum sumpter knocked over a penalty to make it 12-3 which is how the teams went into the break.

Livis cause was helped shortly after the interval when Jones was given a yellow card and they took full advantage of their numerical supremacy as Jamie King managed to junk his way through the East Kilbride tacklers to grab his teams first try with sumpter adding the conversion to reduce the deficit to 12-10.

It looked as if Livingston were going to squander their change of a victory as glen mushet twice hit the post from penalties that would have given his side a single point advantage.

Thankfully for livi, the misses wouldn't prove decisive as they again made the most of another East Kilbride yellow card in the final stages.

Jason watt, who was excellent all afternoon, won a five metre line out and fed the ball to King, who muscled his was over the line to touch down and give his side the lead for the first time.

The conversion was missed, but East Kilbride were denied an opportunity to snatch a share of the spoils as Livingston controlled the ball for the remainder of the contest, before gleefully kicking out of play to bring about the final whistle and a dramatic league win.

They'll be hoping to make it two wins in a row this weekend when they welcome RHC to almond park on Saturday afternoon.

Livingston won the previous meeting between the sides and a win would see them jump above their opponents
