Livingston shut out Cougars

Livingston claimed back to back league wins for the first time this season with a brilliant defensive display against Royal high corsorphine.

It was a game both sides needed to win in a bid to ease their worries and it was the hosts who were smiling come the full time whistle.

The victory sees Livingston climb above the Cougars and up to seventh in the national league three table, as well as completing the double over RHC.

The fact that the game went ahead is of huge credit to the almond park ground staff after heavy downpours as the match kicked off I high winds and driving rain.

The elements made it almost impossible to play free flowing rugby, with knock one and dropped passes littering the opening stages.

But it was livi who got their noses in from after a quickly taken penalty by Ben Shearer that led to Jamie King squeezing through the static defence to dive over for a try, with the conversion missed.

That was all the scoring in the first 40 minutes as Livingston went into the break with a slender advantage.

After the interval, it was the hosts who took the game to their opponents, with King again being the main beneficiary as he score his, and the teams, second try in the early stages.

This time, Kerr Anderson added the two points making the score 12-0.

The contest became bogged down in the midfield as both teams tried their best in muddy conditions, but it was the stronger, heavier pack of Livingston who had the upper hand as they added a penalty.

And they then rumbled towards the RHC line before the ball was picked up by prop Brian middlemass, who touched down for try number three to extend the lead to 20-0.

The focus now became getting the bonus point that came with a fourth try - but the supporters didn't have long to wait asjamie King barged his way through the defence to seal the deal.

The conversion was missed, but bonus point and the victory was clinched.

And there was a special cause for celebration as centre andy McMahon made a winning return after several years out of the game.

This weekend, Lino will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce as they travel to bottom of the table Irvine.
