Huge enforced changes meant Livingston disappointedly lose undefeated Run on Saturday against Duns , but good effort by boys who stepped in

There was a shock in RBS East One on Saturday when previously unbeaten Livingston lost their first match of the season.

The Almond Park men had won 13 league matches and progressed to the RBS Edinburgh Regional Shield final prior to the weekend and were only one of two clubs in the country with a 100 per cent record, along with Marr.

However, Duns – who had only won five of 14 league matches prior to Saturday – managed to secure an 11-3 away win against them.

Even before the match kicked off on Saturday Livi knew they would be in for a tough afternoon as due to a pre arranged event before the fixture had to be rearranged to saturday and due to some injuries Livi had made 11 enforced Changes from the Starting team the beat RHC the week before , This meant a whole new backline with Alasdair Scobie moving out of position into Stand off and 18year Old Cameron McLeary making his Debut on the wing and taking on Kicking Duties.

The game kicked off in cold conditions and from the start it looked liked it was going to be an open game , although both teams were finding it hard to get an Momentum going in the Wet conditions , Duns opened the scoring after 15 minutes after some good work enforced a penalty infront of the posts which was duly converted to make the score 3-0 to the away side.

This sparked a reaction from the home side and Livi just missed scoring from deep when a nice break from Scobie realesed David Stone who just ran out of space before the line and was tackled into touch. Livi moved forward again and drew level after 20 mins when McLeary showed good composure for his age to slot a penalty to make it 3-3. Duns then had 2 players sinbinned for 2 , 10 minute periods but Livi still couldn't put things together.

This is how it stayed until half time but credit had to go to both teams for the effort to play rugby in tough conditions.

In the The second half conditions worsened and both teams could not get into any stride and after 10 mins Duns tool the lead again after an infringement just outside the 22 meant the had a penalty opportuntiy which they slotted to make the score 6-3.

Although the effort was their the patchwork home team were not finding any fluidity in attack and it was evident the lack of understanding due to the lack of game time together was proving costly.

Livi had a couple of opportunities to get back into the game and credit to McLeary who just came up short with kicks on his First Team Debut, As the game moved on Livi were becoming more desperate and this proved to be the downfall as when pushing into the 22 they lost the ball and Duns Broke out of defence superbly and broke away to score the only and decisive score of the game with 10 mins to go.

This is how it ended and the disappointment was plain to see on both the players and supporters faces , however credit has to go to Duns who stuck in well and also to the effort put in by all the players who stepped up, these opportunities for younger players can only be good for the longer term development of the club.

Although the undefeated record is gone the Almond Park men have the ideal chance to make up for it as they will welcome back many of the regulars when they travel to RHC for the Edinburgh Shield final on Saturday with a place in the National Shield semi Final at stake.
