SPUD KNOCKS THEM FOR 6

On a sunny but cold day we headed to Arboretum Park to play Inverleith who had agreed to take the game at short notice.

It took us 5 minutes to score the first try when Ian Simmonds ran in wide out after a good handling move down the right. The conversion was unsuccessful. A few minutes later Dean Edwards danced through the defence to score at the posts and Collin Cantley converted, 12 – 0 to Livingston. The forwards were showing plenty of aggression and after some tough stuff up front, Cantley scored and converted his own try to make the score 19 – 0 to Livi. Over the next 15 minutes Simmonds(Spud),
running some nice angles, scored 3 further tries all converted by Cantley to take the score to Inverleith 0 – 40 Livingston at half time.

Our forwards had dominated the first half and the backs finished well scoring 6 tries. The second half was not quite a repeat of the first half but we still continued to dominate up front and the rewards kept coming when Cantley scored his second try of the match but missed the kick. Simmonds then scored his fifth try when he was on hand to take a pass from Staney and again score at the posts. Successful conversion taking the score to 52 – 0 in our favour. Callum Gillespie then got in on the act by scoring out wide on the right after good close handing by the backs. The kick was missed but the score now stood at Inverleith 0 – 57 Livingston. Credit to Inverleith, who had played as well as they were allowed to, for scoring a try of their own when their prop went over. The final score went to Simmonds who collected his 6th try of the game to bring the final score to Inverleith 5 – 62 Livingston.

This was a pretty good performance by the seconds as the score suggests. The forwards dominated the lineout and most of the loose play and the backs ran some excellent lines and handled well for the most part.

Next week we have a huge game at home to Murrayfield 3rds. Win and we top the league.

Congratulations to the Under 18s for winning their league – and congratulations to the 1sts on reaching the Shield final.
