Saturday saw us welcome Bo’ness to Almond Park for a first meeting between the 2 clubs.
Uncontested scrums were the order of the day as Bo’ness did not have a full front row.
The game began with both teams playing hard rugby and indeed this turned out to be one of our hardest league games so far.
The first try was scored after 10 minutes by Gary Wilson after good work by the forwards. Conversion by Collin Cantley – 7-0. Callum Gillespie then scored wide out to make the score 12-0 to Livvy. Bo’ness then lost a player with a leg injury and this was to prove costly as Cantley ran in unopposed for an unconverted try. 17-0. Thomas Jackson then barged over for a try converted by Alasdair Williamson. 24-0. Callum Bishop then scored wide out for his first try of the season to bring the score to 29-0 to Livvy. Gillespie scored his second of the game converted by Williamson to bring the half to a close with the score 36-0 in favour of the home team.
Some of our handling and off-loading during the first half was excellent and a joy to watch. Our forwards had begun to dominate and the Bo’ness players were finding it hard work in defence.
Livvy scored 2 converted tries in the first five minutes of the second half, the first by Danny McCulloch and the second by old head Robbie Wilson. Dan capitalised on a comedy of errors to score, but for me Robbie’s was the try of the match. He cleared a ruck on halfway and was then on the end of the resulting play to score a great support try out wide. Both tries converted by Cantley to bring the score to 50-0.
The game was called off after only 5 minutes of the second half when Benjy from Bo’ness was knocked unconscious after attempting a tackle on Thomas Jackson. After a few minutes It was agreed to call a halt to proceedings as it was becoming obvious that the visiting defence would be unable to cope with the big hits from the home forwards.
Another successful day for the 2nds who have now won all 4 league games scoring 280 points and conceding only 14.
